  2. The archaeological dig in the playing fields.
    The two playing fields on Bereweeke Road are important memories to me. We were evacuated from Southampton in July 1940 to Ripponden which was Chris Townend's home situated between the two fields. We had one room on the first floor overlooking the girls' field. The first time I saw snow was through the window of that room in the winter of that year. The Townends were very good to us, a mother and two small boys who left Jersey in the Channel Islands that month.
