Hi all !!! ... I have just posted 4 photos of the CCF Army Section 1948 Camp contingent ... apart from Mr Hammond and Mr Pearce, the only other people I recognise are Peter Cox (Cox P.E.) and Paul Tipple (Sgt) ... the ex KRRC RSM is in civilian dress standing in front of the 'Guard Squad', but I regret I cannot remember his name either ... I must be having a 'Seniors Moment' ... hopefully, there is someone out there who can fill in some names ... I would be very pleased to be able to identify people ...

Great set of photos Doug. Nice to see old Pearcy looking so happy. I didn't know Hettie Hammond at all well. But that is a typical stance of his, rather dapper and proper. By the way who are you supporting in the rugby. Have you 'gone native' and support the Aussies? regards, jim
ReplyDeleteThe KRRC company Sgt/major was called Costa or Cosca from memory. I think my first camp was at Warminster probably in 1949. We were hosted by the Northumberland Fusiliers and in 1950 again at Warminster by the Paras with Gen Sir Richard Gale who was leter Deputy Supreme Commander at NATOo following Mongomery. I have a pphoto of me in that Lovely uniform before ir changed in about 19550/51
ReplyDeleteCome on then Mick, lets see the photo! regards, jimi
ReplyDeleteYeah ! ... come on Mick ... I've got one too !!! ... if you will, then I will !!!

Hi there Mick ...
ReplyDeleteThanks for 'kick-starting' my dead-cells ... as you (or your brother ... I regret I cannot remember which one of the two you are ... SOOO sorry) are in the photo I posted of the contingent before boarding the bus to go to camp, it must have been 1949, because I did not go on another camp as I left in 1950 ... I also remember now, quite clearly, it was of course Warminster !!! ...
The RSM, as you correctly recollect, was Cosca, or even Kosca ... I don't think it was Costa (wasn't he the other comedian ? )
Can you put names to anyone else in the pics ??? ... from memory, the guy on your (or is it your brother's) left is D.P. Bennett ... there are quite a few faces I can remember, but I can't put names to them !!! ... there MUST be SOMEONE out there SOMEWHERE that can remember a few !!!
Take care ...

Hi Jim ...
ReplyDeleteWell, as you know, for some unknown reason, I appear to be having troubles with the 'repl' link on one of your messages, so I will try this way ... (hope you don't mind Mick) ...
Glad you liked the photos ... have been meaning to send them for onks, but it was the 'School band' that finally did it ...
As you will have read by now, I did make a couple of boo-boos, and Mick Davey kindly put me straight ... thanks Mick ...
I will edit the details on the photos later, re date and camp location ...
You asked me who I was supporting in the World Cup Rugby ... Rugby, what's that ??? ... have you fogotten I was a 'pioneer' member of the 'resurrected' PSSW Hockey Team in 1949/50 ??? ... in actuality, no, I haven't gone 'ferral' ... before any matches were played I picked England and NZ for the final ... not so sure now with France performing so well !!! ... I watched England v Wales on Sunday (Oz time) and I hate to say it, but Wales were the better TEAM ... but for Wilkinson's 23 points, England would be out of it now !!! ...
Enough of that ... back to nostalgia !!!
Take care ...

ReplyDeleteHi Mick ... Well, you said you would and you did !!! ... I said, if you would, then I would ... and I have !!! I just wonder HOW MANY others out there have pics from their days at Peter Pips that would interest us, but, for whatever reason, haven't posted them ??? ... come on Guys ... there have to be SOME, surely ... I cannot think that Mick Davey and I are the ONLY people with a camera !!! Please keep smiling people !!! All the very best from the Land Down Under !!! Doug Clews p.s. to Phil Lovegrove ... I said I had a pic of you at a Tramps Ball in C/Ford, but have not heard whether you are happy for me to publish that ... and p.p.s. to Chas Taylor ... also asked if you would mind if I published one of you and your Dad with the Otterbourne Branch of the British Red Cross Cadets ... have heard nothing ... (Incidentally, I also have pics of the BRCS cadets, taken on Southampton Central Station, on their way to a camp at Castle Carey (Corfe Castle) with both you and your Dad) Although not STRICTLY PSSW, both pics involve leading students of the School, both of whom have been subject of recent messages Reluctant to post pics without some sort of approval guys Doug Clews
