A place for ex students, or their families, to meet up with other ex students from Peter Symonds' School, Winchester, to share memories, stories and photos
Haven't a clue, Jim. It sure as hell wasn't "Get out of here" or "God help us all" or "Got a light, anybody?" (I thought you'd prefer an idiotic reply to stony silence.) Best, Chris
hi Chris, thanks for that, you got one word right but otherwise nothing! good try, keep the suggestions coming, jim wishart,
hi, so you don't know the answer! As I remember he used to say "God is not mocked" It seemed to be quite a significant statement to me, is it my age? jim wishart, list manager
Are you sure it wasn't "Doc is not mocked", Jim?
Hi Jim I don't recall those particular 4 words, but if doc addressed anyone as "brother", they were in trouble. peter
Docs most famous saying was: 'Work brother, for the night is coming' Brian Gates
The words people dreaded hearing from "Doc" were their own names called out in morning assembly, preceded by something along the lines of "The following will please wait outside my study after assembly"! Peter Smith
message from David Ward posted by Jim Wishart. Dr PT Freeman Headmaster. Kept a cupboard with a selection of canes. A major punishment was to be sent to the headmaster's study where he would allow the miscreant to choose the cane to be used. The ultimate ignominy was to have this punishment administered on the stage in front of the school morning assembly. No - I didn't personally experience such. Doc. Freeman took my class once a week for so-called Divinity. It consisted dominantly of moralising and emphasising the dire consequences of failing to apply ourselves diligently to the code of conduct he advocated. His stock phrase, as I recall it clearly, was "You're the poops breth'ren, you're the poops" In my final year Doc [as we knew him] used his 'divinity' lesson to introduce 'sex education'. This consisted of grainy slides being projected showing genes and chromosomes and division of cells. Nothing more explicit that that - which merely left most of us confuesed and did nothing to prepare us for the realities of our encoulnters with the opposite sex!
