Hello Jesser I stayed at kelso house betwen 71 to 75. Biffer was the housemaster and to this day I still sing that song he used to sing around the House '...or would you rather be a fish. A fish is an animal....' As for Brick, I still remember being slapped on the backside with the side of a saw after breaking three blades during woodwork. I remember his face was rather pitted. We used to say cruelly that this feature arose from the time when he was a boy and asked his teacher how to bang a nail properly. 'Use your head, Brick'. So he did! Dave Singer
ReplyDeleteI was a resident of Kelso & Barton Seagrave between 73-77 and have fond memories. Bag apple was John 'Bag' Happel and Roy 'Buck Tooth' Gregory can (I think) be seen in the photo of the maths group 77-79 in the picture board. I too remember Biffer (& Ma Biff) & Brick together with Jean the matron & Bundles the dog. Maureen the cleaner was a source of some amusement, paticularly her son Kevin, not the sharpest saw in the box - they lived just outside the school gates near the tuck shop. I'm still in reasonably close touch with Nick Barker and secured gainful (?) employment in the Metropolitan Police - over 20 years now! I see that Brian Espiner is also shown on the picture board. I heard interesting accounts about him leaving Symonds' in the late 70's-early 80's - gossip & inuendo or fact? Martin Mitchell
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about him leaving, but I do know that there is currently an Inspector of Schools covering the south called Brian Espiner, and it isn't a very common name. I had a great deal of respect for him and I hope he has done well career wise.
ReplyDeleteHi Jesser I remember you, I was in the same year as Roy Gregory. I am still in contact by e-mail with Mark Jackman and Bruce Brassington. It now seems so long ago, I have been in Canada for 10 years plus now. I also bumped into Steven Graves after college and bought him a drink and apologized for how mean people were to him, including me.
